Rolex Milgauss Wall Clocks
A Milgauss wall clock is the most understated piece in our range. Three finishes, no colour, no ornament — and one of them is fully blacked out, dial and bezel together, which nothing else in our Rolex wall clock collection offers.
It is the design for people who want the presence of a 35 cm steel clock without any decoration attached to it. Clean dial, balanced markers, silent sweep, and a finish that either disappears into a dark wall or sits on a pale one like a drawn circle.

The three finishes
One size, one movement, one build. The only variable is how much contrast you want on the wall.
Finish 01
Full black
Black dial, black bezel. The most discreet clock we sell and the only fully blacked-out piece in our Rolex-inspired range. On a dark wall it reads as a shadow with hands; on a white wall it becomes a hard graphic circle. There is no middle setting — which is exactly why people choose it.
Finish 02
Silver & white
Polished silver bezel with a white dial. The brightest and most conventional of the three, and the easiest to place in a room you have not finished decorating. Best against dark walls, walnut and grey plaster, where a white dial keeps the clock feeling light.
Finish 03
Silver & black
Polished silver bezel with a black dial. The most legible option in the collection: the steel rim frames the dial while the black centre gives maximum separation from the markers. If you want one Milgauss clock for a wall you actually read the time from, this is it.
When a blacked-out clock is the right call — and when it isn’t
The full black finish is the reason most people arrive at this collection, so it is worth being straight about how it behaves.
It works when the clock is meant to be part of the wall rather than an object on it. On a dark painted wall, black panelling or a media unit, a full black clock registers as texture and detail rather than as a feature — it tells the time without asking for attention. It is also the strongest choice in a room that already has a focal point you do not want to compete with, and it hides dust and fingerprints better than any other finish we make.
It does not work if you need to read the time from across a large room. Black-on-black is the lowest-contrast combination in our entire range, and contrast — not diameter — is what governs legibility at distance. Past about four metres in ordinary indoor light, the hands begin to merge with the dial. If that matters, take the silver and black instead: you keep almost all of the darkness and gain a bright steel rim that defines the edge.
The same logic applies to lighting. A blacked-out clock needs some light falling across it to show its detail. On a dim wall with no directional light it will read as a flat dark disc, which may be precisely the effect you want, or a disappointment — worth deciding before you order.

Where it works
Monochrome goes where colour would be a distraction.
- Media rooms and cinema walls. The natural home for full black. Dark paint, dark units, nothing competing with the screen.
- Home offices. Silver and black for a wall you glance at all day, with no tick during calls or recordings.
- Bedrooms. Full black is the least intrusive clock we make at night — no bright dial, no ticking.
- Modern kitchens. Silver and black against white units and steel appliances.
- Gyms and studios. Hard-wearing look, easy to read, and dust does not show on a dark dial.
- Hallways. Silver and white, where a bright dial lifts a narrow dark space.
Milgauss or another Rolex wall clock?
Every collection shares the same 35 cm steel-and-glass build and silent sweeping movement. The dial is the whole difference.
Explorer
The closest relative: equally plain, in polar white or black with a silver bezel. Choose Explorer if you want restraint but not a blacked-out bezel.
Submariner
Also mostly dark, but with a graduated bezel and a sports-tool character. The right pick if plain black feels too quiet.
Datejust
The opposite end of the range: fluted bezels, a date window, gold and rose gold. Formal and decorative where Milgauss is neither.
Oyster Perpetual
Ten colour dials on a silver bezel. Go here if you have decided monochrome is not enough after all.
Mounting and care
Before you hang it
- Decide the contrast first. Full black on a dark wall for a discreet effect, or on a pale wall for a graphic one. Silver and black if you want to read it from a distance.
- Give it some light. A blacked-out dial needs directional or ambient light across it to show any detail at all.
- Check it at night too. A blacked-out clock behaves completely differently under lamplight than in daylight. Look at the wall in both before committing.
- Do not float it on a big empty wall. A dark 35 cm disc centred on a large pale wall reads as a hole. Bring it into a group with shelving or art, or hang it above furniture 60–100 cm wide, dial centred around 160 cm.
Keeping it right
- Indoors only. Not water resistant. Bathrooms, unheated conservatories and covered outdoor walls affect the movement and the finish, and moisture damage is excluded from warranty cover.
- Fresh alkaline AA. One cell runs the clock. A weak battery is the usual reason a sweep runs unevenly, and leakage is not covered — replace cells before they run flat.
- Clean the glass only. Dry or barely damp microfibre on the front. Never spray cleaner at the case or open the clock to reach the dial.
- Mount into something solid. A stud or a properly rated wall plug rather than a picture hook pushed into plasterboard.

Are these clocks made or endorsed by Rolex?
No. Clocks Atelier is an independent design studio and these are watch-inspired decorative wall clocks designed and sold by us. They are not manufactured, licensed, endorsed by or affiliated with Rolex SA or any watch manufacturer, and they are not watches or replicas of watches. Brand names are used descriptively, to indicate the design language a clock refers to.
How many Milgauss designs are there?
Three finishes: full black, silver and white, and silver and black. All are 35 cm with the same case, glass and movement, so the choice is purely about contrast.
Which finish is easiest to read from a distance?
Silver and black, comfortably. The polished bezel defines the outer edge while the dark dial gives maximum separation from the markers. Full black is the least legible at range because black-on-black is the lowest-contrast combination we make — excellent as a discreet object, less so as a clock you read from the far side of a room.
Is the full black clock too dark for a dark wall?
It depends on the effect you want. On a dark wall it reads as texture and detail rather than as a feature — deliberately subtle. If you want the clock to be visible as an object, either hang the full black on a pale wall for a graphic silhouette, or choose the silver and black instead.
What size are they?
All three are 35 cm (13.8 in) in diameter, about the width of a vinyl record sleeve. That suits a wall above a console, sideboard or desk. For a larger piece, see our large wall clocks.
Are the movements silent?
Yes. A silent sweeping quartz movement in every clock, so the second hand glides rather than stepping once a second. There is no audible tick, which suits bedrooms, media rooms and spaces used for calls or recording.
What warranty is included?
A 2-year warranty on the movement against manufacturing defects that affect normal timekeeping. Batteries and battery leakage, broken glass, scratches, impact and drops, water exposure and outdoor use, and incorrect installation or unauthorised repair are excluded. How is the clock powered?
One AA battery. Batteries are not always included with shipment, so it is worth having a fresh alkaline AA ready. A new cell keeps the sweeping movement even from the start.
Can it go in a bathroom or outdoors?
No. These are indoor decorative clocks and are not water resistant. Humidity and condensation affect both the movement and the steel finish, and moisture damage is excluded from warranty cover.
Is a monochrome clock a safe gift?
It is one of the safer choices, because there is no colour to clash with someone else’s interior and no sizing to get wrong. Silver and black is the most universally easy to place; full black is the more interesting gift for someone whose taste you already know runs minimal.
